The 27

This is unacceptable.

And now I have to figure out what I can do about it.

This is an interesting blog. Very diverse, and informative. One thing I noticed: the word "education" is misspelled in your profile. I love irony. Don't you?

Yes, I do.

Thanks for the heads up on the typo. Producing content without the benefit of copy editor/proofreader/editor sometimes keeps me awake at night.

They don't list my student Marcel Collins, who was shot to death in Lafayette Park, a block or so from the school, in December. He was playing basketball when it happened. My guess is that they didn't list it because we are a charter school. He was a nice kid who wasn't in a gang-- a rarity here.

I blogged about it.

I taught at Spencer School, where one of the victims attended, my first year teaching. It's in the Austin neighborhood, not far from where I teach now.

Johnny,
Your student, Marcel Collins, was included on our list (as were at least 3 other charter school children.)
But we suspect our list is not totally complete. If anyone out there knows of other CPS students who were killed this year (murdered), please let me know. We want to write about all of them. But there is no central clearing house for the data

Thanks,

I caught it when I re-read the article. Thanks for the correction and thanks for remembering Marcel.
